How to rate severity
Severity combines frequency, impact and persistence. A problem hit by everyone, every time, that cannot be worked around, outranks a rare one with an obvious workaround.
- Critical
- Blocks the task, excludes people, or risks data or money.
- High
- Causes serious difficulty or errors on a common path.
- Medium
- Causes friction. Users recover, but it costs them each time.
- Low
- Cosmetic or rare. Worth fixing when nearby work happens.
